What does it mean that we are the ‘children of God’? God as Spirit, spiritual, how can we be material and the children of God? We cannot. So to be the ‘children of God’ we have to see above the material and beyond, from the standpoint of God’s view as Spirit. His view is the perfect view, the right idea, the real and only. What God sees and knows is the real. So therefore we’re going to have to look away from our frail premises to look beyond the veil of matter to see what God understands of His creation.
It means that we as God’s Idea, His children must be higher than ‘our poor thought models’ as mortal beings have allowed. It has to mean that we are not the mortal, material beings of the Genesis chapter 2, the Adam man, where it begins with man being created from the dust and woman being created by this dust man’s rib.
If we are not this Adam creation, then what? We must look to the Genesis Chapter 1 creation for the answer. The creation that God made all and saw all that He made as very Good. This creation reveals that man was created through and by the Perfect Spirit, in His image and likeness. This spiritual man of God’s creating is the Real Man, perfect and spiritual.
This man, created in the image and likeness of Perfect Being, God, has the power, dominion to be above the false picture of the Adam man. The children of God, the offspring of this God that sees everything that He had made as very good has the ability and dominion to heal everything unlike Good. Through the realization given to us by God that we are His offspring, spiritual and eternal in His perfect Being we have the power to heal, remove all pretenses of life in matter from our thought and lives. We can do this by seeing that man is not in the mortal, sinful, sick and dying. But in the reality of Divine being.
This is what Christ Jesus came to reveal about man and how he healed. He wasn’t the only one that healed or raised the dead. After teaching his student’s the truth concerning man’s being as the offspring of God, perfect children of God, they too went out and healed. Healing is the realization of the Truth of Being opposed to the unreality of the claims of life in matter as mortal, temporal being.
Jesus stated, “Before Abraham was, I am.”2 We, all of God’s offspring, the children of God are also before ‘Abraham’ if we realize that God created Man in His image and likeness, perfect, whole, complete, free and before the mortal belief of creation popped up to try to deceive and steal our birthright as the children of God, the Perfect One.
When we let go of the false beliefs about ourselves from material mortal parents and acknowledge our true nature and character as the children of God we will be free from the material holds that have been placed upon us. Jesus was sent to reveal to us all who and what man really is, the spiritual, perfect idea of God. Jesus didn’t come to rub perfection in our faces but to reveal to us all who and what we are and our abilities with this knowledge of perfect selfhood.
"Mortals will disappear, and immortals, or the children of God, will appear as the only and eternal verities of man. Mortals are not fallen children of God. They never had a perfect state of being, which may subsequently be regained. They were, from the beginning of mortal history, ‘conceived in sin and brought forth in iniquity.’ Mortality is finally swallowed up in immortality. Sin, sickness, and death must disappear to give place to the facts which belong to immortal man.
Learn this, O mortal, and earnestly seek the spiritual status of man, which is outside of all material selfhood…
When speaking of God’s children, not the children of men, Jesus said, ‘The kingdom of God is within you;’ that is, Truth and Love reign in the real man, showing that man in God’s image is unfallen and eternal. Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God’s own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick….”3
When we let this revelation of God come to us, show to us who and what we are as His children, His offspring, His idea, what Good we will be able to express! Our perfect selfhood is ours as His image and likeness. It is our birthright. It is a key to freedom from all ills, sin, disease and death. It was revealed to us by Christ Jesus along with all the healing power that this revelation brings.
Just as mankind turned from the wrong belief of a flat world to the realization that the world is a sphere, freeing mankind from the bondage of fear and ignorance, we now all can realize life as spiritual. We can be free from the Genesis 2, Adam man, which has held us in bondage and be free in the infinite realization of life as the children of God, the creation presented in Genesis chapter 1.
“Citizens of the world, accept the ‘glorious liberty of the children of God,’ and be free!4
