“On the side of Good”

I will gain a balance on the side of  good, my true being.

This alone gives me the forces of God wherewith to

overcome all error. On this rests the implicit faith

engendered by Christian Science, which appeals

intelligently to the facts of man's spirituality, individuality,

to disdain the fears and destroy the discords of this

 material personality.1                                                                    Mary Baker Eddy

We are taught through Genesis chapter 1 in our Holy Bible that God created all that was made and that He saw His creation as very good. Man and the universe created by God, Good, must then express and manifest this divine constant Good.

We are taught in Christian Science the ultimate importance of Genesis chapter 1 as a measuring stick for all things that comes to our thought, a distinguishing factor against the lies of the devil compared to God’s allness and Goodness.  We are told, “Since God is All, there is no room for His unlikeness. God, Spirit, alone created all, and called it good. Therefore evil, being contrary to good, is unreal, and cannot be the product of God.”2

God is All, therefore the claims of evil can be and must be removed from our thoughts so that we may see and follow God’s Goodness. The more we cultivate this activity, the more we see our divine right as the children of Good the more we are freed from the false claims of evil, lack, sickness, disease and death. The more time we waste in believing in and perpetuating the lies of error, evil, the constant false claims of an evil bad, the more our lives are drug in the mire of these lies. Our freedom comes from the stand on the side of Good.

As the children and heirs to the Christ we must spend our every moment magnifying the grace of God, the Truth of Life and its abundant Good. If we do not do this we are as the Prodigal Son eating the husks the swine eat and groveling in the dirt of life. What a waste of time!

It is like when Jesus asked the toiling fishermen (his disciples who had returned to their old ways after his crucifixion) if they had caught anything in their nets. “Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat?  They answered him, No. And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find.  They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.”3

Jesus’ healing works constantly shined the light of Truth upon all discord, sickness, disease and death and revealed the power of Good, God. He didn’t have anything good to say about or to evil. He abolished it and taught his followers to do the same.

When we take the side of Good we too heal the discords, pains, fears, sicknesses, and sins that the devil throws at mankind. It is powerless in the presence of Good. But the importance of magnifying Good, realizing Good, sustaining and maintaining the divine Goodness of God in our thoughts cannot be stressed enough. The praise of Good and the life lived expressing Good is man’s purpose, work, and joy. The reward through the strife is the joy of seeing man’s constancy in the Allness of God’s precious Love for all mankind and His salvation from all evil.

When we’re tempted by the long nights of strife and the confusions of the day, let us take our firm stand on the side of Good. Let us see that we are the heirs with the Christ, that our Creator is the God of All Good. Let us beat down the temptations of evil, sin, bad feelings, anger, resentments, and fear, with the trust that Good, God, is the victor over every evil claim. Let us rejoice that we are the children of Good and honor Him by constantly fighting for the side of Good.

Fear is a bully

If you turned fear into a person it would always be a fearful, trembling, afraid, worried, concerned, dark, doubtful person of gloom and doom. Simply stated, the identity of fear is fear. Fear is simply and totally the activity of fear. Fear is afraid. When one falls for fear they find they are in the midst of a bully that grows every step of the way. A bully that has no facts or divine Truth, but is always making statements of fearful what ifs and maybes. Fear is always just fear. To be afraid, fearful, deeply concerned and worried, one must agree with the bully, fall for the bully’s threats, and fear fear.

But if one turns on fear with the light of Truth, God’s goodness and allness, then fear disappears, runs away, leaves. You see, God, Truth, is All Good, all Power. There is nothing that fear can attach itself to or make afraid in God. Truth, God, is never afraid.  With no inkling of fear or darkness in God’s Truth, there is no place for fear to attach itself to, bully, or companion with. Why? Because fear is the barer of bad, the scream of doom and gloom, the terror of future non-events, but God, on the other hand, is the all-knowing, all-wise, all-expressing Good. God has no darkness, no doubt, no fear. Therefore there is no place for fear to have a foothold or claim in the reality of God, Good. God, Good, is the eternal, infinite, forever Good. Fear then has to be the infinite nothingness of nothing. A bully of nothing is no power, no bully, nothing to fear.

Man, God’s reflection, the ray of His Truth and Love, cannot actually be afraid if he knows who and what he is as God’s perfect offspring. It is a lack of trust and understanding of the who and what he eternally is that attracts fear. A lack of understanding attracts doubt, concern and then a full blown case of fear. But when one learns about their true identity as a child of God, this light of Truth removes all fear.

God is Love. He is all Love. Everything God does, gives, expresses is through Love. If man understood Love and not just love, he would understand the constancy, power, and ever-presence of Love. When he thinks of Love as love, it is ‘ify’ at best and downright disappointing at the worst. But when he learns that Love is God, ever-present, powerful, good, divine, eternal, then he can let go of his dependence upon and dissatisfaction in the false mortal views of love.

Love heals, Love reveals, Love guides, Love protects, Love embraces eternally and continually. Love never lets man down, never fails, never leaves. Love is as constant as the light of the sun day and night. Love is Love. It grows, gives, rejoices and makes happy.

In the Bible we are told, “Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.”1

The sudden fears that make our system jump, the sweat of the unknown, the trouble and concern can be cured by and through understanding, confidence in the all-knowing, all-wise God. Then when understanding of how to do something is revealed fear of any given situation no longer terrorizes. With understanding also comes trust, trust in and the leaning upon that understanding. God is Mind. When we understand Mind, turn to Mind, and lean upon Mind, we receive all the answers that we need.  These answers are perfect and useful. This removes fear.

Paul stated to his disciples, “…my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings:”2

Paul was turning his disciples and followers to God instead of to himself. We too must learn to go to God for all things and not to people, groups, family, parents, or friends. They can be so sweet and useful but they are not the All-knowing God.

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science puts it this way, “‘Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling’ says the apostle, and he straightway adds: ‘for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure’ (Philippians ii. 12, 13). Truth has furnished the key to the kingdom, and with this key Christian Science has opened the door of the human understanding. None may pick the lock nor enter by some other door. The ordinary teachings are material and not spiritual. Christian Science teaches only that which is spiritual and divine, and not human. Christian Science is unerring and Divine; the human sense of things errs because it is human.3

Those loved ones or groups that offer help are ‘the human sense of things’ which sometimes is so off base that it leads us further away from God and further away from the Truth, the answer to our problems.

What we need is more faith in the divine. A false sense of faith in persons or the bullying fearful tactics of the tempter leads us further from Divine Mind. But this higher sense of faith in God isn’t blind but through a better understanding of God. A clearer view of what God is and what God is doing frees us from the uselessness of fear, based upon doubt and a lack of knowledge.

When we turn to God, Truth, we see with clarity and understanding how to do every duty that comes to us. The light of Truth dispels fear. It brings to light the reality of any given situation. This light removes the dark ominous threat of fear and reveals ability, God’s ability. So when are afraid, all we need is this Light of Truth to reveal to us the reality of any given situation. This Truth is God’s omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent control.

To turn to, love, embrace, and trust Truth, God, gives us strength each task along the way. It gives us the power to handle the fears and doubts that try to stymie us. By loving Love, understanding Love and its availability and ability we become free from the fears that try to paralyze us.  By turning to Mind, knowing that it is the all-knowing and wise, we are freely given the answer that we need. Practice in this line of trust makes us forever less fearful. Understanding, trust and love frees us from all fear.

We are told, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world…Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us.”4

Friends, fear not, only love Love. God loves us, is revealing to us, is embracing us in His wisdom and goodness. He has all the answers for us. Fear has nothing to give to us. But loving Love brings all to us. Let us trust the all-knowing Mind and be free.

Listen

Today we can sing David’s Psalms, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.”1

When we are still, quiet, expectantly waiting, we can hear the Word of God. We can have our consciousness uplifted to His higher standpoint of thought and action. We can feel His leading presence gently guiding us safely all the way through the day.

How? Christ Jesus beautifully reveals to all mankind the ‘how’ when he gently speaks, “when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us  this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.2

To ‘enter into the closet’ we must still our thoughts, turn off the ‘to-do lists’, the hurt feelings, anger, resentments and fears. It is to have no other thoughts accept the open thought, expectant of receiving in His Word, ready for His commands. To have a still thought is a cultivation of working through all of the false ‘maybes’ and ‘what ifs’, and to close out any thought that darkens our thinking with fear and doubt. To open our thought to Him, inviting His Word through love and joyful expectancy to receive it, allows our thinking the readiness that it needs to hear His ‘still small voice’.3

With this mental attitude of stillness and expectancy we do receive His Word. It guides us, delivers us and reveals to us the truths that we need for today. That is another simple truth, when we turn to Him for His Word, we do not ask for tomorrow’s Word, guidance, supply. We only ask for the here and now of His Word, His Truth, His guidance. That is all we need and all we’re ready to accept. To ask in advance dishonors His perfect daily unfoldment and reveals our distrust in His wisdom and goodness.

Mary Baker Eddy, the discover and founder of Christian Science, gives the spiritual interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer in her textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. Below you may find the full version from her chapter entitled “Prayer”. But the key to this ‘listening’ thought comes under the “Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Where she interprets it, “Enable us to know,--as in heaven, so on earth,--God is omnipotent, supreme.”4

As we turn our thoughts to His Will He does ‘enable us to know, as in heaven, so on earth’ He is all-powerful and supreme. He enables us to know His Will, His direction, His Love. As we turn our still quiet thoughts to Him He reveals to us His power here in the ever-present Now of His perfect harmonious Being, heaven.

This revelation is as St. John saw heaven here on this plane of thought and described it to us5. He revealed to all that everyone and anyone that is spiritually, mentally prepared may see it in the present Now. His cultivated spiritual quiet thought gained for Him such a divine revelation as this. How important then is it for us to also demonstrate this quietness of thought, this active listening for and to the ‘still small voice’ of divine Wisdom, Love.

So today, let us be still and listen to Him for today’s guidance. Today let us quiet our thought continually throughout the day and be ready for His moment by moment guidance of Love and goodness. Let us learn how to live in that quiet closet of prayer continually and consistently. Then we truly will be living our prayer, “Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.”6

Self-Justification...that path that leads astray

It matters not what be thy lot so love doth guide; for storm or shine, pure peace is thine, Whate’er betide. And of these stones, or tyrants’ thrones, God able is to raise up seed—in thought and deed—to faithful His. Aye, darkling sense, arise, go hence! Our God is good. False fears are foes—truth tatters those, when understood. Love looseth thee, and lifteth me, ayont hate’s thrall: There Life is light, and wisdom might, and God is All.1

It doesn’t matter what we think if we are thinking out from “self”. We are always in the wrong if we are living our lives as tyrants over others, pushing our opinions and agendas. God is All. What God knows, sees, does, and expresses is the Truth. This Truth lifts us above all personal sense of things into the higher knowledge of Good. Love looses us from the false pretenses of opinion, beliefs, and strongly held desires, to God’s unfoldment of eternal divine Right.

Job’s state of thought was, “I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.”2

This is all well and good if Job thought of himself as not self-righteous but as the supreme example, expression of God’s Good. Letting God humble him and purify his thoughts from judgmentalness to being meekly willing to let God’s judgments guide him.

We get ourselves into a lot of ‘trouble’ when we go headlong into a conversation or activity if it is based upon what we personally believe about the situation…we can really open up our mouth and insert foot (or pink slip, divorce, or heartache). How important it is to make sure that we humble ourselves first before life does it for us.

Christ Jesus reminds all mankind, “Judge not according to the appearances, but judge righteous judgment.”3 AND WARNS… “Whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.”4

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science states, In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error, self-will, self-justification, and self-love, --which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death.5

Strong words against self-justification, “is the law of sin and death”!

Paul’s words could be turned into a self-analyzing question: “Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer (?)”

How can we tell between righteous judgment of God or self-righteous, self-justification? The Holy Bible states, “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”6

The righteous judgment of God is the Law. It brings us out of our own undoing, the pits we create with our views and our mouths. But self-righteousness and self-justification brings us further down into the darkness of self-will and self-love. There is no law that justifies us if we are going from a point of view that we are all right and everyone around us is all wrong. A point of view that elevates our self-righteousness doesn’t bring us any good.

Humility is a beautiful thing. It brings with it pause, the kind of pause we all need so that we may wait on God. Humility brings with it progress. Self, all the self opinions that take us down a path of destruction in reputation, grace, meekness, brings with it embarrassment and having to turn ourselves around to go back to where God is leading us.

David sings in his Psalms, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.”7

Let us go through today and always with a meek and understanding heart. God’s views are higher than our views. He will lead us not into the path of destruction but through the ways of understanding and goodness. Let us not be all puffed up in our own self beliefs, but meek, humble, loving, and safe from the carnal enmity that is against God.

Safety--Stay within

Where are we safe? Are we safe in a wood, brick, or metal house? Are we safe at the mall or in the movie theater? Doesn’t the threats of today make one feel that safety is arbitrary to things around us, the weather, people, conditions?

In thinking recently of an occurrence where Jesus had said to the people, “I and my Father are one.”1 When he said this the people took up stones to stone him. They probably were not thinking they would just thunk him a few times, but probably had the evil intent to kill him.

Christ Jesus didn’t run. He faced the threat. He asked them why they felt the need to stone him, for what reason.   How did he have the bravery or wisdom to stand up against their error and hatred? He knew that he was at one with the Father. He wasn’t just talking about it but knowing it. It was a Fact, a Truth to him.  He knew that mankind is the offspring of the Father, safe and within God’s keeping. Instead of wanting to stone him they should have been thanking him!

We are told, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”2 To be safe we must stay within this understanding. WE live in divine consciousness, we move and have our being there. Why? Because God, Mind, fills all space. When we understand that the Divine Intelligence of the Universe including Man fills all space with Love, we can see that Love is the animator of all Being, NOT hate. Love removes hate, heals hate, keeps mankind safe from hate, when one realizes the power of Love over the threats of hate.

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, repeated Christ Jesus’ words when she described man’s oneness with God and His place with God. “…’I and my Father are one,’—this is, one in quality, not in quantity. As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being. ‘the Scriptures read: ‘For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.’”3

There were other times when the people had a mob mentality and threatened him. But Christ Jesus knew where he was, safe in God’s Love.

We too may know this. The more we understand our unbroken relationship with God and His harmonious Being, the more we can feel the safety of that Truth.

David sang in one of his first Psalms, “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.”4 AND “Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.”5

The men and women of the Bible followed God’s Word, obeyed His commandments and Beatitudes. They knew that by staying strict to His Word it saved them from having to retrace their steps like Jonah had to in his disobedience. Because he wasn’t obedient to God’s commands he ended up in a whale’s belly. Jonah had to call to God, renew his obedience, and be vomited out of the belly before he found his safety had always been within the following of God’s Word.

In obedience we too must do as we are told. We must learn how to hear our Father’s voice and then be diligent in following His voice. This keeps us always safe.

By following His commands, His statutes, His laws in our daily lives, we are putting ourselves in the right place at the right time instead of visa versa. To be a listener and obedient follower of His Word, we too can feel the spiritual safety that brings.

We cannot let the events of a few turn us around to fearing every shadow, every person, every event. We must regain our dominion by knowing the Who, What, Where of the Holy Ghost. Many who have understood their divine protection have been able to walk through the mobs of fear and anger without even a scratch. When we lift our consciousness high above the chaos and fear, to where we can feel and hear His voice of calm, we can also hear His constant directions.

David brought with him that sense of safety in many battles. Moses had a huge multitude leaning on him and at times disgruntled with him. But he knew that by following God’s unfoldment of Good, God’s direction, all would be safe and cared for till they arrived at the end of their journey. Paul threw off the viper that latched onto his hand from the fire. Even though others around him waited for him to become sick and die of the venom it had no effect upon him at all.

We too are safe in our day. We must be alert to being in God’s presence and following Him. He will always have His angels guarding and guiding us. We are safe with-in His Love.

“From earth's fears and vain alarms
Safe in His encircling arms,
He will keep us all the way,
God, our refuge, strength and stay.”6

Promises Kept

“Our God is Love, unchanging Love,
And can we ask for more?
Our prayer for Love's increase is vain;
'Twas infinite before.
Ask not the Lord with breath of praise
For more than we accept;
The open fount is free to all,
God's promises are kept.”1

“God’s promises are kept!”

This sounds wonderful! It has to be wonderful if God is promising something. But what are these promises. What is a promise?

A promise is “a declaration that one will do or refrain from doing something specified.”2

Such as when God promised to Abram, “Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.” 3
“And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.”4
“And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.”5

But those promises are so far ago. Do those promises hold any promise for us today? Are they just about what those men were going through? NO! We all turn back to the Bible to see the promises and examples of God’s Power. But not to look longingly at what they had, but to see what we’re included in. The examples are to show the humility, meekness and love these men had and their turning to God every step of the way. But they also show God’s faithful works. Those ‘lands’ for Abram wasn’t for just him but for generations up to this date. Those commandments weren’t for just Moses and the Israelites but for us all to follow and be safe within. Solomon’s genuine heart, desiring for a higher sense of wisdom and ability wasn’t just for his age and time. But it reveals to us all that when we turn to God for His wisdom and intelligence we get bountifully more than just what we ask for. It reveals every time that what God gives isn’t meagerly but full and running over, blessings that are generational not just personal.

Christ Jesus said, “I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”6

Mary Baker Eddy, the founder and leader of Christian Science, stated in her thirty-two point platform found in her chapter, Science of Being, “Jesus demonstrated Christ; he proved that Christ is the divine idea of God—the Holy Ghost, or Comforter, revealing the divine Principle, Love, and leading into all truth.”7 ALSO, “This Comforter I understand to be Divine Science.”8

Divine Science is the Science of the Christ activity that animated all in the Bible in their healing, protective, life changing work. It was best exemplified by Christ Jesus but it was expressed by all that were doing the work and commands of God. Moses in the parting of the waters; David in killing the threat of the giant; Ruth in staying with her mother-in-law and giving to her care and tenderness; Elijah and Elisha; Jacob and Paul, to just mention a tiny few.

We are not aimless, hapless, struggling people. We are the offspring of the Father-Mother, God. We can look throughout the Bible to see for ourselves His Holy promises. They are given to everyone, which includes me, you, all of  us. His promise includes the healing activity of the Christ. His promises lift us from our mortal views to His range of infinite blessings.

BUT—“No doubt must intervene between the promise and event; faith and resolve are friends to Truth; seize them, trust the divine Providence, push upward our prayer in stone,—and God will give the benediction [blessing].”9

“God is Love.”10 We are “daily His delights.”11 He does bring us out of all bondages—temptations, fears, anxieties, doubts, sins, sickness, and death. We can count on His promises. We can rejoice in His presence. We can feel His Holy Power. Let us not take and hide His promises from our lives through doubt. Let us take up our faith and resolve that Truth does bring His promises to fruition. Let us take hold of this, be aware of these promises and push upward our prayers from hope, concern, doubt to expectancy, strength and enduring love. God will then give His benediction, His blessings!

Trust

In the Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy we find, “The physical universe expresses the conscious and unconscious thoughts of mortals.”1

So what is the physical universe expressing right now? Tornados, drought, flooding, fires, economic stresses, job losses, home foreclosures, and that is just in the United States of America. Those are pretty stressful conditions. On Facebook this morning I found one person’s post simply stating:
“S-T-R-E-S-S-E-D” That was to the point.

How do we turn the tides of thought and see Good instead of all this dismay and destruction? The simplest and life altering answer is that we must turn to God and trust Him. We must see that we can trust His ever-present Good. We must turn from trying to do everything on our own; Or sometimes worst yet, trying to find someone who can help us. Instead, we must SEE that God is giving to us abundantly and taking care of us. We must take a firm stand on the side of Good. Believing in the promises and taking a stand for His omnipotent care. He IS giving to us all that we need through His love, goodness, support, and joy.

Tired of fear and stress? We must finally stop looking at the darkness and turn to the Light of His Love, to the Light of His joy and giving. His tender care will free us from what we’re seeing as all-around evil and destruction and reveal to us His divine view point of Good. It delights God to love and give. His peace is ever-present.

By learning how to trust His power we become much more confident in Good instead of the horrible darkness of constant evil that seems to always be biting us at every step.

Why can this be said? Has anyone been successful, consistently, by turning to God? Is God real? Is He trustworthy? Does He know me and you?

Our Great Master and Exemplar revealed to mankind over and over this invisible Good as an ever-present help. Christ Jesus had the works of hatred always trying to take him down. But he revealed to us the omnipotence of our Father’s Love, His constant care. Jesus trusted in Good instead of its demoralizing opposite. He knew that God, Love, is loving all and expressing all through Love. He knew that God is All-in-all through his healings of every kind. He knew that God, Life, is the only Life and showed mankind through his raising others from their dead thinking. He knew that God, Principle, is the Law of our Being as the offspring of Soul. He knew that God, Soul, created all and that His creation was very good. He knew that God, Mind, is the power behind all right activity and that it is perfect, whole, balanced, complete, and free from all taint of error, mistake, ignorance, discord. He knew that what Mind knows and does is perfect and that Man is included in this divine perfect activity.

What Jesus knew and trusted he loved and expressed for all man to see and express likewise!

So when we trust in evil, bad going from bad to worse, struggles, instead of love, freedom, goodness, abundance, we get what we expect and what we think. How important then is it for us to turn our trust from the evil to the Good. Looking for Good, expecting to receive Good, manifesting in our thoughts and activities only Good! Jesus exampled this activity for us but didn’t do it for us. We must be as his disciples and produce the same effects, bring thought and lives up to the same standards of divine perfection, be the reflections of Good that we were created to be.

How? Christian Science teaches us that by loving God, Good, more than fearing evil we gain our dominion over all evils. It teaches us the Science of the Christ, the what and how of our Master Christian, Christ Jesus. It teaches us that by trusting Good instead of expecting the worst to happen in our day, we can see and live in the atmosphere of Good. It reveals to us how to be active trusters instead of halfhearted hopers. It teaches us HOW to take our stand for Good and HOW to demand of ourselves and our thoughts, our attention, to be on God, Love. It teaches us the importance of our praise of glory of Him who does all, created all, and expresses all through Man and His Universe. It teaches us that God is trustworthy. He is Love. He is always available. He is always waiting patiently for us, mercifully, tenderly.

So…Why not trust Love? Is it not that we think of love on a much lower level than God, Love? Haven’t we based our views upon people as our source of love, goodness, jobs, care? Hasn’t this basis been flimsy at best and downright devastating at times? Are we shell shocked at the vast chasm between true Love and Care and being dropped time and time again? People, bank accounts, jobs, houses, circumstances let us down when we base our good upon the mortal. Over and over they prove to be less than reliable. But isn’t that even more a reason for us to stop looking for care and supply from a lacking basis and start looking to the omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient God for our source of all Good?

Job warned: “So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure.”2

We must see where we are putting our trust and reform that course of action and thought. If we are putting our trust in things that can burn, float away, leave, be lost or taken, or upon people and jobs that waiver and leave, then we are basing our good on the flimsy and unstable, the  ‘spider’s web’. But if we put all of our thought and activity on the divineness of Good, on God who never leaves, is always lifting us to higher and higher to His views and activities. Then we’re basing our Good on a firm foundation; the foundation of Life, the foundation that Jesus always pointed us to turn to for everything.

Our lives can look pretty dismal, lacking in every area but it is never too late to turn to God for the real answers, the abundance of His care and love. What the world needs more is trust, starting with me. Let us trust the faithful, “the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving”3 God who created All. He knows the way He is leading us. He knows His Love for us. He is here ready for us to stop trying to do this dark fearsome maze of concern and doubts on our own. He is waiting to lift us up above the maze and be free! By looking up to Him He will lift us out of it. Let us look to His Light and Love and be free. Let us trust Him and let Him do the leading. How? Simply love God more than believing the lies, the opposite of His Good.

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.”4

Prayer/Poem/Hymn By Mary Baker Eddy

“It matters not what be thy lot, so Love doth guide;
For storm or shine, pure peace is thine, whate’er betide.

And of these stones, or tyrants’ thrones, God able is
To raise up seed—in thought and deed—to faithful His.

Aye, darkling  sense, arise, go hence! Our God is good.
False fears are foes—truth tatters those, when understood.

Love looseth thee, and lifteth me, Ayont hate’s thrall:
There Life is light and wisdom might, And God is All.”

Burdened?

So many in my area this morning are waking up in someone else's home. There has been evacuation due to the threat of fire.

Turning thought to prayer the temptation to feel sad, burdened, concern was lifted by the realization that God is here, Good is always here. Things and homes may have been lost for some. But Love is all around. Things and homes can be rebuilt. But our relationship with God, Love, is never lost, never broken, never taken from us. All we have to do is turn to Him to feel His constant loving presence.

To some the burden of this new day may feel heavy. But we are shown our burdens are actually light when we give them all over to God. We do not have to carry anything on our own shoulders. All we have to do is to turn to Him, look to Him, and follow step by step His unfoldment of His eternal Good.

Christ Jesus, the man that was called the man of sorrows'1 revealed to us all that he saw his life in God as not a burden but a place of joy. He stated, "All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."2

What a thought! Our 'burden is light'. Despite the outward appearances we can sing, "my burden is light. I understand that God is our Father. God is constantly revealing to us our divine relationship to Him, Love!"

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, states, "Is not our comforter always outside and above ourselves?"3

To find freedom from all burdens we must see that comfort comes from Love, God. This Love is outside of and above our personal sense of things. It lifts us above our low level view to His higher view of Truth, Life and Love, what He is seeing, knowing and doing. He never leaves us in this pit of burden. He never lets us dwell there. He comfort us and guides us upward into His perfect, calm view of Life as Spirit, spiritual, unburdened.

Let us let go of the false sense of loss and burden. Let us let Him lift us above the false personal views to His Higher Sight, His clear vision of all Good. Let us turn from the burden with a enlightened heart of joy, satisfaction, gratitude. Let us let God lift us from the struggles. Let us let God reveal to us His way and joyfully follow Him. He is our constant. He is our Care Giver. He is lifting us above the darkened sense of burden and revealing our life as His beloved cared for child. Then we can say joyfully, "my burden is light!"

Resentment, resentful, angry?

Have you ever seen a cat all settled calm maybe even purring one minute and then puffed up with back arched the next time you see him? What is his natural state of being? Calm, happy, purring or puffed up, afraid, angry?

As the children of God what is our natural state of being? As God is Good, loving, tender, merciful, isn’t that our natural state of being as well? So what is the resentful, angry, hostility that comes to try to mar our natural, calm state? Aren’t they temptations of the hater, tempter, destructive and destructible evil?

So when these temptations of being angry and resentful come to us can we not take a stand for our true calm, happy nature? Doesn’t God not only create man in His perfect calm image but also reveals to us how He is protecting us from the temptations?

David sings his precious Psalm, “He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.”1

Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian Science, states, “The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, disease, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God’s spiritual, perfect man.”2

Our calm joyful nature is ours. We get to be this perfect image and likeness of what God is and is doing. We get to take a stand against the false character and rejoice in our dominion. When one stays in their true nature it is easier to stay above the temptations. But when we fall for those temptations we can feel lost in the waves of turmoil and the sea of emotions.

Let us be free and calm instead of captives to anger and resentment. Let us be buoyed by God’s divine nature and the truth of our being, His perfect reflection. Let us stay safe in His tender truths and not be reactionary to the false claims that there is something or someone who can disturb us from our true calm nature. Let us see that by being our true selves, Love’s children, the calm, loving, ideas of God, we are free.

Let us be cool cats and stay calm. Let us rejoice that our nature is God's nature, loving, tender, calm. Purrrrfect.

Gentle hugs

Scientific Statement of Being

Question.—What is the Scientific Statement of Being?

Answer.—There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all. Spirit is immortal Truth; matter is mortal error. Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal. Spirit is God, and man is his image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual.”1 by Mary Baker Eddy

Life is eternal. It has no beginning and no ending. This was proven by Christ Jesus over 2,000 years ago when hatred tried to crucify Love. He proved the impossibility of killing Life. He proved over and over that life isn’t in a mortal material body. He proved that no disease, no sin, not even death held power over God’s Man, the image and likeness of God.2

Mary Baker Eddy was healed many times of many ailments. She even had a ‘deathbed’ experience. When the doctors proclaimed there wasn’t anything else they could do for her and that death was what was going to happen to her shortly. She asked for her Holy Bible. She opened it up to a healing account of Jesus’ and she was healed. She got out of the bed, dressed herself, showed herself well to her friends instead of dying. She then went on a three year mission with her Holy Bible, studying, praying, gleaning, learning and proving the what and how of her healing by healing others. She later shared her learning with others and called it Christian Science. The Science of the Christ, the Science, knowledge of the how and the what of the Christ. The Christ power that was in the life experiences of those before Christ Jesus and that is in all of our lives in the here and now.

The power she learned from the Christ healing work she shared with the world. As Christian Scientist we feel great gratitude for Mrs. Eddy as well as for Christ Jesus. Because the two of them are the forever two witnesses to the Laws of God, Love. They shared the power, manifestation, expression of ‘Immanuel, God with us’ all. They gave proof to the ever-present divine Laws of God. They taught us all, that it isn’t a gift for a few but for all mankind to express and prove for themselves. This healing ministry is provable for all. “The divine Principle of healing is proved in the personal experience of any sincere seeker of Truth.”4 This ‘divine Principle…Truth’ is God Law of Truth and this heals the sick, lifts the sinning and dying, and reveals Life as God’s presence being reflected by Man.

Many of us have seen this healing presence of God’s divine laws being manifested right where the mortal claims of disaster, disease, sinful temptations and even death claimed to be more powerful. God is the only power, the only Life, the Spirit, Soul, Principle Creator of the Universe including Man. God is Love and He expresses His healing Love through us all and with us all. He never leaves, therefore His perfect Being, the Being that we reflect, never leaves us. This perfect Being heals us of all misconceptions, lies, opinions, theories, false systems, dogmas and creeds concerning life in a matter based, mortal existence, the lies of the error, devil that tries to forever separate us from the Truth of our Being as God’s children.

God’s laws are the only true Law, otherwise how could Christ Jesus heal man and woman from all sorts of the mortal beliefs? Man reflects these laws and is maintained by them. Man is here as proof of these laws and are to prove them in his daily experience. God’s laws are the only Power. The false claims of mortal beliefs have no power to change the ever-powerful, ever-present, All-in-all of God. As we prove God’s healing ever-presence and Man’s reflection, expression, duty and responsibility to be healed and heal with God’s laws, the lies disappear.

Man is the proof, the reflection, the image and likeness of all that God is and is doing.  We are told “mark the perfect man, and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace.”3 By ‘marking this perfect man’ in our thoughts and our lives, we are proving the ‘Scientific Statement of Being’.

Burdened? Sick? Sinning? Dying? Learn this Scientific Statement of Being. This Scientific statement is our being as the image and likeness, the ‘perfect Man’ of God’s creation. It is provable, healing, lifting and powerful.

Let us stop being the victims of lies and see our Divine Right as the Children of God.
